THE MAINTENANCE OF YOUR JEWELRY

ON A DAILY BASIS

Whether they accompany you every day or occasionally, your jewelry is a precious object that requires attention. These few tips will help you keep them in all their authenticity. Take the time to handle your jewelry with care. Make sure to remove your jewelry when you wash your hands, perfume yourself or apply cream. The particles of these cosmetics – which are not removed by a quick rinse – can lodge in the hollow parts and form a corrosive mixture that, in the long term, can lead to premature wear of the metal. Repeated contact with household detergents or insecticides can damage pearls and some gemstones. A product containing mercury (mercurochrome type) will irreparably damage gold.
Choose your jewelry according to your activities : avoid wearing it on the beach, at the swimming pool or when playing sports to avoid shocks and scratches. The same applies to work in the house or garden. Avoid rubbing by sliding your pendant on the chain or wearing several rings on the same finger. Be careful not to bring your jewelry too close to a source of intense heat, X-rays or radioactivity.

SOME PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES

Before you wear your jewelry, observe it for a moment:

• Check that the clasp, and its safety if it has one, has no « play ».
• Check that the stone setting has not moved.
• By shaking the jewel close to the ear: If you hear a slight noise, it means that the stones are
  no longer perfectly held.
• By rubbing the jewel against a fine cloth: if it clings, it means that the claws have moved.

If you have the slightest doubt, it is preferable not to wear your jewel before having it
checked by our Babylon workshop.

THE MAINTENANCE OF YOUR JEWELRY

Your jewelry should be cleaned regularly. If they contain lapis, coral, pearls, turquoise, emeralds, or, in general, if they have many paved stones, their cleaning must be entrusted to our professionals, in our workshop. If they do not have this type of stones, you can do it yourself : in warm soapy water, rub delicately with a small, very soft brush, rinse carefully and wipe with a soft cloth. Once a year, bring your jewelry to our store to have it checked, cleaned and revived. Every one to three years, have the threading of your pearl necklace checked.

STORAGE OF YOUR JEWELRY

In contact with each other, the jewels get scratched. We recommend that you store them individually in their Babylone box. Chains should be closed and laid flat to prevent knots from forming. It is not recommended to place several pieces of jewelry together without protection.
